However all 3 require one click to give focus to the area of interest.
The 3 areas I mention are:
1) The message list: click once and then use your up and down arrows to navigate quickly from one message to the next.
2) The text area: click once in the text area and then (instead of dragging the scrollbar), you can use your up and down arrows to scroll from top to bottom and back through long messages.
3) The play/pause button: click once to give the play/pause button focus and then you can press the "Space" bar on your keyboard to toggle between play and plause.
These are just a few of the navigation tricks that are built into this application.
(Hint: To find more, try using the "Tab" key to change the focus area.)

Project We Say Tomato 2005

Listen to this post for an update on Project We Say Tomato, including the most recent news on:

Some of the media will appear in this text area (e.g., Unicode and HTML text elements, as well as imported jpg images and Flash swf files).
Other media types (mp3 audio and flv audio) are controlled by the transport controls at the bottom of the message list.
Finally, Flash video files will also appear in the text area fly-out. The transport controls will control those videos too. I'll post a sample video and other media elements as demonstrations shortly.

Media Samples: Unicode and HTML Text

(NOTE: This is a text-only entry. No audio/video included.)
It's possible to display international characters using standard Unicode. Here is a random sample of a few Unicode characters:

IPA Characters:
ɐɑɒɓɔɕə

Here's a recording that came in via my duber dot com voicemail application way back when on November 24, 2003. I've saved it since then while waiting for the proper forum in which to share it.
Of course, I know exactly how this person must have felt. I believe that I also may have experienced an epiphany the very first time I recorded and then played back my own voice over the Internet!

Webheads Fiesta at TESOL

ElderBob of the Webheads hosted this fabulous event:

Conference Presentation: CALICO 2005

I will be co-presenting at CALICO along with Jeff Magoto of the Yamada Language Center on our work developing web-based speech tools for the University of Oregon.

As a result, there should be better performance (audio/video) in my LetsTalk message boards. In addition, my LiveChat and SmallGroup applications should see a noticeable improvement as should all my other application demos that are based on FlashCom technology (voicemail and project we say tomato among others).
Also, sorry for the lack of posts. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find time to devote to blogging of any sort. More free time away from a computer is the goal.
